A minimal, offline-first Android app for learning classic Malayalam spiritual texts verse by verse. Built for daily practice, with zero ads, zero tracking, and zero internet dependency.
Many of us grew up hearing texts like Harinamakeerthanam in our homes but never had a structured way to learn them verse by verse. I looked for apps that could help, and the options I found were either cluttered with ads, required an internet connection, or presented the entire text as a dense wall that felt more overwhelming than helpful.
Padham (പദം, meaning "step" or "verse" in Malayalam) presents one verse at a time in a calm, minimal reading interface. The goal is simple: learn at your own pace, one step per day if you prefer, with zero distractions, zero data collection, and zero internet dependency.
Every design decision in Padham was made to reduce cognitive load. I would say the principle is straightforward: if a UI element does not directly help the reader focus on the verse in front of them, it does not belong in the app. The result is generous whitespace, carefully chosen typography, and subtle animations that guide the reading experience without competing for attention.
